Tezhip / illumination

Tezhip is the traditional art of illuminating manuscripts, originating in the islamic world, especially flourishing during the Ottoman Empire. It involves intricate gold leaf designs to adorn religious texts, documents, and artworks. The word “tezhip” means “gilding” in Turkish, highlighting the art’s use of gold for decorative purposes.

For me tezhip is far more than an art form- it is a philosophy, a way. of life. Through its delicate strokes, it weaves the timeless beauty of tradition into the fabric of modernity. Tezhip teaches patience, a quiet reverence for the process, and a deep respect for the art’s origins.
